About the Work
In North Pasture, Bowen places the viewer close to the land, just behind an overgrown foreground thicket that fills the lower portion of the composition. Bright cadmium-red raspberries and pale green unripened fruit punctuate the vegetation, catching the light and giving the foreground a vivid, tactile presence.
