About the Work
Across a commanding 31" x 41" horizontal format, Gayle places the viewer at the edge of a tidal marsh cove. Foreground reeds frame the scene and lead the eye toward a winding waterway that moves through the center of the composition. Around it, the marsh banks unfold in layered passages of copper-orange, burnt sienna, cadmium red, and golden ochre, evoking the final intensity of autumn.
