About the Work
Across a 24" x 36" horizontal format, Gayle sets a low horizon beneath a sweeping, expansive sky. A powerful cloud formation moves through the upper right of the composition, shifting from deep plum shadow to brilliant cadmium yellow and molten amber. On the left, open passages of cobalt and cerulean blue provide balance and release, allowing the sky to feel both dramatic and spacious.
The lower half of the painting opens into a field of glassy tidal water. Long horizontal passages of pale lavender, periwinkle, and silver-white create a reflective surface that mirrors the color and energy of the sky above. The result is a composition that feels calm, luminous, and expansive.
