In Last Light, contemporary New England abstract painter Cathryn Cooper creates a richly tactile, light-filled natural study on a commanding 24" × 24" square canvas. Rather than relying on rigid, hyperreal contours, she uses a complex network of fine graphite lines and fluid acrylic glazes to map the forest's energy at twilight. The lower half of the composition becomes a study in reflection and organic pattern: a slow-moving mountain stream, built from deep cerulean and midnight-blue pools, opens into long horizontal trails of cadmium orange, molten gold, and warm copper that echo the fiery sky above.
The landscape’s structural foundation spans the central midground.
