Style and Composition
Cathryn presents an atmospheric woodland view across a substantial vertical canvas. The composition functions like a natural viewing terrace, drawing the viewer beneath a broad canopy of turning leaves.
This “leaf curtain” dominates the upper portion of the painting, rendered in fluid washes of golden ochre, mustard yellow, muted sage, and soft green. Openings in the canopy reveal patches of pale sky, giving the foliage a light, stained-glass quality.
Below the branches, slender dark trunks frame the scene on both sides. Their roots loosen into a soft green foreground path, guiding the eye through the center of the trees toward a misty pasture and a quiet blue horizontal band that suggests distant water or a ridge softened by fog.
Thin, transparent acrylic glazes give the valley and sky an airy, weightless quality, while fine calligraphic branch lines add structure and movement. The result is a calm, lyrical landscape with a soothing, contemplative presence.
