Style and Composition
Cathryn places the viewer deep inside a rugged winter canyon, where dense forest frames a brilliant opening of fog and light. The right side of the canvas is anchored by a tall network of evergreen and bare winter trees, painted in midnight blue, deep teal, and charcoal.
Fine, scratch-like marks cut through the dark tree forms, suggesting tangled branches glazed with winter ice. To the center left, sunlight breaks through the forest mist in fiery orange, cadmium gold, and soft ochre, creating the painting’s radiant focal point.
Below the warm glow, the valley floor opens into a rushing icy creek or snow-covered path, built with dry-brushed streaks of periwinkle, lavender, and pale silver gray. The contrast between dark blue forest and golden mist gives the compact composition strong atmospheric depth and visual energy.
