In Opening to Mt Kearsarge, Byron Carr uses a 24" × 30" horizontal format to create a richly textured mountain overlook. Dark tree trunks frame the distant valley, while a steep foreground trail is built with impasto strokes of raw umber, burnt sienna, and charcoal, scattered with amber leaves and granite fragments.
